High Cholesterol

High Cholesterol

chronic

Elevated blood cholesterol increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.

What is High Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxy substance in your blood. High levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol can build up in arteries, increasing risk of cardiovascular disease. HDL (good) cholesterol helps remove LDL from arteries.

Management

Lifestyle changes include a heart-healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight management. Statins (such as atorvastatin and simvastatin) are commonly prescribed to lower cholesterol levels. Regular blood tests monitor lipid levels.
